Why should you service your car regularly?

A service for your car is essentially a health check, at selected intervals your car requires certain checks and adjustments to make sure it works to its best ability and remains as economic as possible both on fuel and repair costs.

You may not always be aware of worn components and potential hazards or dangers on your vehicle, having your car serviced to manufacturers requirements will give you a good “top to toe” of your car ensuring that everything is inspected and adjusted to legal and manufacturer requirements.

Did you know?

Preventative maintenance can help avoid worn or damaged components affecting other parts.

What we do

At unique car services ltd we will service your car to manufacturer and dealer standards without affecting your warranty, this is due to new legislation.

We also fit OE (original equipment) parts on every service, unless otherwise specified this ensures you get a dealership service at a fraction of the cost.

When should you service your car?

We have the data for all cars  service schedules, every individual type of car has a bespoke service interval created by its manufacturer right down to the year, make, model and engine code.

This lets us know when each type of service needs to be carried out and all of the components to be checked, adjusted or replaced.

Most cars service schedules tend to be mileage based however, if the car is not covering the miles there is an annual service schedule provided to make sure your vehicle is still operating to its best ability and that the components are not deteriorating or seizing with age.

What happens during a service?

During a service your car will undergo a strict inspection removing any necessary wheels, panels, and trim to make sure all service items are checked and reported if necessary.

Depending on the type of service required this will determine what parts are needed.

Items such as engine oil, oil filters, air filters, fuel filters, spark plugs and pollen filters are commonly replaced.

However your cars service schedule will determine replacement intervals for other items such as timing belts, brake fluid, coolant, gear oil and others.

All of the above information is readily available for us to check so please feel free to ask if you are not sure.

Nothing is replaced without your authorisation because this helps ensure that there are no surprise bills

Additional items or parts

As these are available at an extra cost, if they are required your technician will let you know when you drop off your vehicle.

  • How often should I service my car

A motor vehicle should have a service inspection at least once a year or within the mileage specified by your manufacturer

  • How can I find out my tyre size

Your tyre size is on the side wall of your tyre and it will also be in your user handbook

  • Can I supply my own parts for example tyres ,exhausts ,brakes and suspension components

We prefer not to fit customers own parts due to not being able to warrant the integrity of the parts supplied

  • What happens if my car fails its MOT

If a vehicle fails its MOT, it does not meet legal requirements and must be repaired to comply with MOT test standards. The MOT refusal will detail notes on the failures as well as advisory items that are suggested for attention but not yet outside of the requirements to pass the test. The retest time is 10 working days

  • What does my service include

Both our interim service and full service includes essential checks, fluid level top ups and an oil and oil filter replacement. In addition, our full service includes the additional service parts for your engine be it a petrol or diesel engine

  • How can I tell if my exhaust is damaged or faulty

One of the key parts of an exhaust is the silencer. This represses the sound produced by the engine through the exhaust. If the exhaust becomes corroded or there is a hole in the silencer the sounds are no longer muffled and the exhaust will become very noisy. This could also cause carbon monoxide to leak up into the vehicle which can be very dangerous.

  • How do I know if my brakes need attention

If you have a brake warning light or symbol illuminated you should book in to be diagnosed asap. Other signs include a grinding noise when you apply your brakes which may indicate that the pads are excessively worn. If the car pulls to the left or the right, it probably means your brakes need some attention. Also if you have a spongy brake pedal or a continuous pulsing, this may indicate a brake fluid leak.
